Tipperary won their first Munster senior football title since 1935 and had a Clare man in their ranks.

Lissycasey’s Joe Hayes was part of the Tipperary management that guided the Premier County to their tenth Munster SFC championship success.

A former goalkeeper for the Clare seniors, the Toomevara resident joined David Power’s set-up last September alongside All-Ireland winner Paddy Christie from Dublin and Munster club winning manager of Clonmel Commercials Charlie McGeever.

Of his decision to get involved, Hayes previously told The Clare Echo, “It got to a stage where I wanted to dip my toes into a county setup, the opportunity arose and I took it”.

En route to Sunday’s 0-17 0-14 final win over Cork, Tipperary saw off Hayes’ native Clare and Limerick. They welcomed Sydney Swans player Colin O’Riordan to their line-up for the decider in which they sported commemorative jerseys on the 100 year anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

Manager David Power was in charge of the Tipp side that were crowned All-Ireland minor champions in 2011 and previously managed Wexford at senior level. He described the achievement as “a massive win” for the county.

They will now face Mayo in the All-Ireland semi-finals.
