New cases of COVID-19 in Co Clare are back at low levels for the second day in succession with eight new cases recorded.

On Wednesday evening, the Department of Health announced 379 additional cases of COVID-19 across the Republic of Ireland. Eight of these are in Co Clare with 116 in Dublin, 38 in Donegal, 30 in Meath, 27 in Cork, 22 in Limerick and 22 in Louth, and the remaining 124 split among all other counties.

Clare’s 14 day incidence rate per 100k of the virus is now at 111.9 which is below the national rate of 121.3. The county falls in the middle in this regard with the 13th highest incidence rate.

Ireland’s death toll from the virus has passed 2,000 after the Health Protection Surveillance Centre was notified of 12 additional deaths.

Over the past 24 hours, there were 22 hospitalisations in connection to the virus. As a result, there are now 282 COVID-19 patients in Ireland with 33 individuals receiving ICU care.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan acknowledged the impact of the pandemic on communities and families across Ireland. “It is important that we continue to work together if we are to suppress this virus and protect as many people as possible. For the next two weeks, work from home, stay at home and follow public health advice.”
