Clare will be without captain David McInerney for Saturday’s crunch qualifier with Wexford.
McInerney was shown a straight red card by Waterford referee Thomas Walsh in Saturday’s one point win over Laois.
This decision was appealed by Clare GAA with the Tulla man attending a hearing on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Clare GAA has confirmed to The Clare Echo that this appeal was unsuccessful.
Subsequently he will be unavailable for selection when Brian Lohan’s men face off with Wexford for a place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
This leaves a selection headache for Lohan and his management team of Ken Ralph, James Moran and Sean Treacy with the possibility that star attacker Tony Kelly may have to fulfil a deeper role against Davy Fitzgerald’s side.
No new injuries are known within the Clare camp while changes to the Banner defence are expected such as the return of Jack Browne.
Lee Chin and Rory O’Connor are said to be slight doubts for the Model County but both men are expected to start the contest which takes place at O’Moore Park.
