Clare has recorded a further dip in the amount of new cases of COVID-19 being diagnosed in the county.

Eight new cases were notified to health authorities in the latest figures for Co Clare while a total of 416 new cases are known across the country. 87 of these are in Dublin, 62 in Cork, 41 in Mayo, 37 in Galway and the remaining 181 cases are spread across 19 other counties.

Confirmation of five further deaths related to the virus have been announced by the Department of Health. Since March, 1,913 people have died as a result of Coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland.

Co Clare’s (235.7) fourteen day incidence rate of COVID-19 per 100k of the population remains below the national rate (268.7).

Latest hospital figures have revealed that 41 persons are being treated in ICU with 279 in Irish hospitals as of 2pm on Saturday. Over the past 24 hours, 19 hospitalisations were recorded.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan said on Saturday, “We are making progress in suppressing the current rise of COVID-19. Ireland is currently one of only four countries in the EU with a reduction in its 7-day incidence. Nationally, our reproductive number has reduced to about 1.0.

“We are working collectively to achieve suppression, but it is too early to ease our efforts. The incidence is decreasing in young adults but it continues to rise in those aged over 75. We have more to do but we are on the right track,” Dr Holohan added.
