17 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have emerged in Co Clare.

Clare has experienced a sharp spike in cases this week, a total of 41 new diagnoses have been made between Tuesday to Friday, the Department of Health have confirmed.

A total of 364 new national cases were announced by the Department on Sunday evening. 100 cases are in Dublin, 55 in Cork, 31 in Donegal, 24 in Limerick, 23 in Galway,17 in Clare, 14 in Sligo, 13 in Roscommon, 10 in Kerry, 8 in Tipperary, 8 in Wicklow, 7 in Kildare, 6 in Kilkenny, 6 in Offaly, 5 in Cavan, 5 in Mayo, 5 in Meath, with the remaining 27 cases in 9 counties.

Health officials have said 74 percent of the cases announced occurred in individuals under the age of 45. Community transmission has been attributed to 42 of the cases while 27 percent is due to close contact with a confirmed case or an outbreak.

No additional deaths have been reported across the country. Since the outbreak of the virus, 1,810 people have died in the Republic of Ireland.

Presently 134 individuals are being treated in Irish hospitals for Coronavirus with 22 in ICUs.
