Potholes at the car park of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Newmarket-on-Fergus are to be repaired in the coming weeks by Clare County Council.

An appeal to repair potholes at the Ballycar Rd car park of the Newmarket-on-Fergus church were sought by Cllr Pat McMahon (FF) “as a matter of great urgency”. His proposal was seconded by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND) at the September meeting of the Shannon Municipal District.

Repairs would be undertaken “at the earliest opportunity,” senior executive engineer, Aidan O’Rourke noted in response to the motion.

Speaking on the matter, Cllr McMahon said the conditions were examined by Council officials but any potential works were put on hold due to the outbreak of COVID-19. He recalled that land ownership of the parking area “was a dispute for a long time”. He added, “The potholes can get really bad, hopefully we will be able to do something”.
