Wolfe Tones kept their intermediate football championsnhip hopes alive with a two point win over รire รg in a game played at Cusack Park this Thursday evening.
Wolfe Tones 2-3
รire รg 1-4
Venue: Cusack Park, Ennis
Heavy rainfall throughout the day resulted in the fixture being moved from a waterlogged Clooney pitch.
It was a game of missed chances, รire รg will rue a lot of missed opportunities and Wolfe Tones will be the first to admit that they will have to show a big improvement if they are to entertain hopes of overcoming Corofin on Sunday evening when the teams will do battle at รire รg for the last semi-final spot.
All of the goals came in the opening half with Ross OโConnor and Cian OโRourke finding the net for the winners while Kevin Moloney was the Ennis sideโs goalscorer.
It was 2-2 to 1-2 at the interval but รire รg could and should have been closer.
It was a similar story in the second half when the winners managed just one score. รire รg were unlucky to see a number of efforts rebound off the upright while the Shannon man also managed to clear one Ennis attack off the goal line when a goal looked certain.
รire รg manager Billy Woods accurately summed up the tie when he said โthey took their chances and we didnโt take oursโ.
