Captain John Caseyโs prize was the attraction at Dromoland at the weekend where the leading players after 18 holes qualified for a 9 hole play off on Sunday evening.
Dromoland Golf Club:
Conor Barry emerged as the winner with 101 nett from Bart OโBrien on 102.5 with Ruairi Price in third spot with 104.5, they were followed by Mike Daffy with 106, Shane OโDoherty with 107.5, Stephen OโDonoghue with 108, Damian Morris with 109 and Adam Merriman with 109.5. Mark Reynolds won the gross with 73.
Other prize winners were Martin Barry (guests) with 77, William Fitzgerald (past captains) with 75, Dylan OโBrien (junior) with 66, Cathal Ruane (student) with 107 nett, Billy OโMahony (18 and over handicap) Jody McDermott (front 9) and Niall Geraghty (back 9)
In the captains prize to the ladies Kelly MacClean was the winner with 68 from Ellie Cotgreave with 70, Mary Arthur with 73 and Kitty Quinn with 73. Leslie OโFlynn won the gross while the nines were won by Ann Nix with 36 and Jean Colleran with 35. Anne Fahy Cosgrove won the 9 hole competition
In Fridayโs open singles Eoghan Smith was the winner with 45 points from Gordon OโNeill on 41 and Aaron Landy on 40, Brian Shelly won the gross with 35.
East Clare Golf Club:
Round 1 in the menโs player of the year competition at East Clare took place last week. The 18 hole stroke winner off the white tees was Erik Kolshus (13) with 67 nett from Aaron OโBrien (11) with a similar score. Eoin Magill (3) won the gross with 72.
In the 18 hole stableford competition off the yellow tees the winner was Shane McGrath (12) with 44 points from Donal OโGrady (21) with 41 and John Canny (25) with 39
In the ladies 18 hole stroke competition the winner was Siobhan Shanahan (15) with 70 nett. The category winners were Eileen Donnellan (17) with 75, Margaret Lynch (27) with 74 and Helen Downey (33) with 73
Kilrush Golf Club:
The SuperValu menโs singles at Kilrush on Saturday was won by Tom Clancy (6) with 40 points from Rory Lillis (14) with 39 and Shane Lillis (2) with 38.
In the Kepak open the winner was Tom Clancy (7) with 43 points from James Murtagh (16) with 40 points and Emmet Long (13) with 40 points.
The ladies West Clare Cleaners singles was won by Ailish Lorigan (16) with 36 points from Margaret Hehir (19) with 34 points, Peggy Mulqueen (29) with 33 points and Marion Brennan (22) with 33 point.
The category winners were Margaret Donnelly (18) with 33 points and Kathleen Haugh(32) with 32 points
Gort Golf Club:
Last weekโs open singles at Gort was won by Jack Beakey (5) with 39 points from Damien Kennedy (13) with 38 and Dylan Molloy (16) with 37.
The Bob Forde trophy, an 18 hole singles stableford competition, was won by Gerard Niland (6) with 42 points from John McGrath (13) with 40 points and Niall OโShaughnessy (8) with 38 points. Paul Smith (9) won the gross with 29 points.
In the Bob Forde ladies competition the winner was Anne Kerins (21) with 39 points from Ruth Naughton (18) with 38 points and Marcella Killeen (28) with 36 points. Yvonne McMahon (19) won the gross with 36 points.
In the Coen Steel summer golf classis the winners were Martin OโReilly, Cyril Doherty, David Cahill and Philip Dunne with 102 points from Michael Ryan, David Daly, Kieran Reidy and David Quinn with a similar score. In third spot with 99 points were John Moylan, George Fahey, Tommy OโDonnell and Gerry Glynn followed by Colin Higgins, John Reidy, Donagh Murphy and Niall McMahon with 98 points. Fifth spot was filled by Eanna Melville, Shane Burne, Ronan Burke and Liam Perkin with 98 while the ladies prize was won by Yvonne McMahon, Joan Fogarty, Patricia Reddy and Teresa Mahon with 90 points. The non GUI prize winning team comprises Dermot McDermott, Kevin and Joe Keehan and P.J. McAllenn with 83 points.
Ennis Golf Club:
Captain Ollie OโLoughlinโs prize was played for at Ennis on Sunday when former captain Liam McCannon (15) emerged victorious with 67 net. Gerry Collins (6) was second with 68 followed by Cathal Ruane (6) with 68 and Michael Meagher (9) also with 68.
Peter Lyons (13) was fifth with 68 followed by Paul Nihill (13) with 69, Joe Carmody (16) with 69, Frank Owens (19) with 69, Eddie Glenny (19) with 70 and John Kelly (16) with 70. Matthew Whelan (4) won the gross from Martin Moran (6), both returning 75.
The category winners were Ronan Herbert (6) with 72, Padraig Cusack (16) with 71 and Gerry OโConnor (24) with 71. Dave Pender (9) won the past captainโs prize with 74 while Pat Murphy (9) won the seniorโs category with 72. The nines were won by Andrew Whelan and Michael OโBrien.
Liam Hughes (18) won the Friday open singles with 41 points from Joseph Flynn (28) from Gowran Park with a similar score.
David Rushe (13) was third with 40 points followed by Conor OโHalloran (18) from Limerick with 40. Ronan Herbert (6) won the gross with 75
In the Tuesday fourball Tom Greene and Steve Burns were the winners with 38 points from Gary Cunningham and Peter Lyons with 37. In third spot with 37 points were Alfred Jones and Mike Moroney with 37 points followed by Flan Downes and Barry Lee with 36, Conor Doyle and Oisin McCarthy with 35, Sean OโGorman and Michael Butler with 34 with Evan Greer and Mark McCarthy in seventh spot with 33 points.
