A fatality is looming on a South Clare road, one elected member of Clare County Council has warned.
Safety measures have been sought on the L3102 from Cratloe Cross to Flanneryโs Cross by Cllr John Crowe (FG) at a recent meeting of the Shannon Municipal District.
An examination of the request is due to be carried out by members of the local authorityโs road staff. Senior engineer, Aidan OโRourke had flagged that the roadway โterminates within the boundary of the motorway maintenance scheme and if necessary the operator will be contacted to review this junctionโ.
Cllr Crowe outlined that โthe very end of the motorwayโ at Flanneryโs Cross โis extremely dangerousโ with a high amount of traffic going at a very fast pace. Motorists are left blind on the Bunratty side of the road he stated and believed safety measures were required. โIt is better to try get it done now before we have a fatalityโ.
โAt Tommy Flanneryโs cross when youโre coming onto dual-carriageway youโre coming on from a starting stop,โ Cllr Pat OโGorman (FF) highlighted. He suggested a filter road parallel to the dual-carriageway to give drivers time to get out on the road and gain some momentum. Cllr PJ Ryan (IND) replied, โThe only way of solving it is to extend the hard shoulder at both sides of the cross, that is the only solution.
