Doora/Barefield clubman Mark Rafferty will manage the Doonbeg senior footballers in 2021.

A Derry senior football championship winner with Glenullin John Mitchels in 1985, Mark moved to Clare in 1998. He was midfield on the St Josephs Doora/Barefield side that contested the 2011 Clare SFC decider and was manager of the team a year later then also reached the decider, losing to Kilmurry Ibrickane on both occasions. He previously served as a county minor selector to Kieran Kelleher.

Fellow St Josephs clubman Kieran O’Neill will also be involved on the management team. O’Neill, was wing back on the Clare team which were crowned Munster champions in 1992. Last year he was in charge of the Kilmaley senior hurlers.

This will be O’Neill’s second stint involved with The Magpies. He was manager of the last Doonbeg team to reach the senior final when they lost out to Cratloe by three points.

Doonbeg native Eddie Killeen from the outgoing Doonbeg management team will also be involved along with his brother Gerry who was a team mate of O’Neill in the 1992 Munster title winning Clare side.

They will replace a management team headed by Brian Dillon last year. Doonbeg won the last of their eighteen Clare senior titles in 2010.
