Seรกn Lenihan has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Clare Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA).
A native of Miltown Malbay but now a member of the St Josephs Doora/Barefield club, Sean succeeds Cooraclareโs David OโBrien in the role. OโBrien caused โshock and surpriseโ at the Annual General Meeting of the Clare LGFA when announcing his decision to step down.
OโBrien served for one year in the role following the sudden death of Kieran Harvey from the West Clare Gaels club.
At Thursday eveningโs virtual EGM, Lenihan was the sole nominee to fill the void. A senior engineer with Clare County Councilโs project management office, Seรกn is one of the key figures working on the planned West Clare Greenway. He has previously been Chairman of engineering groups such as the Thomond Region of Engineers Ireland also the Local Government Division of the IEI.
Shannon Gaelsโ Geraldine Kelly who stepped down as Treasurer at the AGM has returned to the position, delegates were informed. The election of officers had been suspended at the AGM following the double resignations.
Several motions were discussed at the meeting but no reference was made to the Boardโs attempts to appoint a successor to James Murrihy as intermediate manager.
Speaking at the EGM, former Chairperson Bernie Regan expressed her confidence that Lenihan would be โwell ableโ for his new role. Emma Hastings of East Clare Gaels was among those to wish him the best of luck.
Club delegates are said to already be impressed with the manner in which Lenihan chaired the EGM. Sound feedback from one delegate during the Zoom meeting prompted the West Clare native to comment, โJust a reminder to everyone to mute the mics if you are not speaking, I think Coronation Street is on in the background somewhereโ.
