Teenagers in Ardnacrusha have been criticised by a Clare TD and RTÉ journalist for failing to adhere to social distancing guidelines as outlined by the HSE and the Government.
A large group of teenage boys were gathered together on Wednesday evening in the locality showing no regard for the measures in place to flatten the curve of Coronavirus.
RTÉ journalist Petula Martyn posted online her annoyance with the actions of the group. “Out for a walk this evening in Ardnacrusha, Co Clare, and I was laughed at by a group of 10 teenage boys when I told them they shouldn’t be hanging out together. They and their parents are letting the community down,” the Morning Ireland reported tweeted.
Their actions have been described as “ridiculous” by TD Cathal Crowe (FF) who said it was “putting others at risk”.
Comments surrounding Petula’s tweet were suggesting schools were at fault, a viewpoint Crowe hit back at. “I was a primary school teacher up to a month ago. Schools teach a curriculum that embodies respect, SPHE. You can’t by any stretch of the imagination blame schools for what’s happening today”.
