Gallows Hill residents in Turnpike, Ennis have started a morning exercise class which is conducted while also following social distancing guidelines.

A spur of the moment idea inspired a Friday morning exercise class which is to continue on Monday morning. Residents have described it as “an absolute treat” after Victor O’Riordan of VR Fitness came up with the brainwave and put the wheels in motion to get the people of Gallows Hill moving while also self-isolating.

With the majority of residents in the area retired and their level of social interaction greatly reduced in an attempt to limit the spread of coronavirus, the idea was floated about of getting them out of the house for a few moments while most importantly keeping a safe distance apart while doing so.

O’Riordan pitched the idea to his neighbour, Cllr Pat Daly (FF) who made contact with the remainder of the estate to get their thoughts. Victor said the uptake was “astonishing” with “the whole neighbourhood out in force” to get some exercise together while adhering to social distancing on Friday morning.

Video of their Friday session below. They are planning to resume the workout on Monday morning.
