This weekend Feb 21st to 23rd The Irish National Darts Organisation’s Inter County Counties Darts championships takes place at Treacys West County Hotel before moving to a new venue from 2021 onwards. Reigning champions Meath put their title on the line in the Men’s competition, while Wexford will be attempting to retain their crown as Ireland’s finest in the Ladies competition.

Thousands of darts enthusiasts will travel from competing counties all over Ireland to battle it out for the Blue Riband of Darts. Over the years the event has become a most colourful one with competitors and their supports donning their county colours in support of their teams.

The main Inter-Counties competition will start on Saturday morning with 26 Men’s and 16 Ladies teams entering the fray. The winners and runners-up from each group will qualify for the last 16 to be played on Sunday morning. Those not qualifying for the last 16 will enter a Shield competition. The Men’s final is scheduled to take place at 8pm on Sunday evening and will be preceded by the Ladies final, scheduled to take place at 5pm. The competitions including the finals are set to be streamed live on the INDO’s facebook page.

This year’s event will be the last event in the current INDO three-year cycle with the 2021 event moving to County Meath. Ennis has been home to the championships for the past two competition cycles, which started in 2015 and it is estimated that each INDO contract cycle contributes up to €2 million of a boost to local economy around the successful host venue.

Speaking ahead of the 2020 National Intercounty Darts Championship event, which takes place this weekend, Head of Sales & Marketing Manager at Treacy’s West County Hotel, Alphie Rodgers said, “We are really looking forward to 2020 Inter Counties Darts Championships. It is a tremendous weekend for us to see quality championship darts players and we are delighted to see it coming back to Treacys West County. For us, it is will be somewhat bitter-sweet as we will say goodbye to the event in 2021 as it moves to its new venue. However, we are immensely proud to have partnered with the INDO over the past 6 years and watch the championships go from strength to strength. We wish the INDO well at their new venue and look forward to welcoming the event to Ennis again in the future.
