Increasing use of the Ruan to Corofin road has led to one elected representative seeking an upgrade of the surface.
Cllr Joe Killeen (FF) requested an upgrade of “the surface, road edge and cutting back of protruding vegetation” on the Ruan to Corofin road which he pointed out now falls “under the remit” of the West Clare Municipal District.
Acting senior executive engineer of the West Clare MD, Morgan Lahiffe committed to carrying out a survey on the road which comprises of the L-1098 and L-4162. “This survey will look at surface conditions, road widths and vegetation. On completion of the survey, we will consider elements of works for inclusion in the 2020” schedule of MD works.
“Before the last local election, Tubber, Boston and Ruan were in the Killaloe Municipal District,” Cllr Killeen reminded the meeting. “Because of the motorway, people from North Clare are coming into Corofin to go through Ruan to get onto motorway so it’s busier than ever before.
“There is no shop in Ruan at the moment, you can’t buy a box of matches at the moment so people have to go to Corofin or Ennis to do their shopping. The hedgerows are damaging cars and agricultural vehicles in the recent past”. Killeen stated his was pleased with the response. Cllr Gabriel Keating (FG) seconded the motion.
