Michael McNamara’s (IND) bid to return to Dáil Éireann has received a timely boost with outgoing TD, Dr. Michael Harty (IND) urging his supporters to back the Scariff farmer.

On Wednesday night, the Kilmihil GP confirmed that he would be endorsing the former Labour TD. He appealed to his supporters to give McNamara their first preference vote and he outlined his belief that Clare “should continue to have an independent voice in the Dáil and elect a candidate other than those of the main-stream parties of Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael.

“Clare has always shown its willingness to allow alternative and different views to be expressed and I believe Michael McNamara is best placed to express those views”. He maintained Independent Tds would have “a very important role” to play in the aftermath of the weekend’s General Election.

Harty stated, “I believe Michael McNamara will continue to be a strong voice for Co. Clare while advocating for balance regional development, rural sustainability and maintenance of essential services in our threatened communities. Additionally he is passionate about saving Irish farming from political indifference and corporate greed thus allowing our farming community to make a decent living. Michael is also passionate about the future of Shannon Airport which is so vital for tourism and job creation in Clare and the wider Mid-West region”.

McNamara has publicly thanked Dr Harty for his support. “I would also hope that Dr. Harty’s work on health policy, in particular primary care, will form the basis of future Government health policy”.
