A teenager has been arrested following the seizure of €2000 in suspected counterfeit notes at two Clare addresses today (Thursday).

Gardaí from the Clare Division as part of an ongoing investigation carried out at a search of houses in Ennis and Ennistymon on Thursday morning.

During the Ennis search, 100 counterfeit €20 notes were seized with a man in his late teens arrested at the scene. He is currently being detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

“We would like to remind businesses to ensure that staff carry out essential checks on any notes, regardless of the denomination,” Crime Prevention Officer Sgt Triona O’Rouke said.

O’Rourke added, “Check the obvious security features before accepting notes, including the watermark, security thread, hologram patch and raised print. By taking the time to feel, examine and tilt the notes, businesses can prevent taking the loss to your business.”
