David McInerney will captain the Clare senior hurlers for the first time when Brian Lohan’s men begin their Munster Senior Hurling League campaign away to All-Ireland champions, Tipperary on Sunday.

McInerney who was captain when a Lohan managed UL won the Fitzgibbon Cup in 2015 is named at half-back with Inagh/Kilnamona’s Kevin Hehir wearing six and his clubmate David Fitzgerald completing the line, the trio are all graduates of the University of Limerick.

Éire Óg’s David Reidy returns to the Clare team after taking a break to pursue educational opportunities in 2019, he partners Diarmuid Ryan in midfield. Whitegate’s Andrew Fahey will stand between the posts with his clubmate Eoin Quirke retained at corner back following last week’s challenge game defeat to Galway, Jack Browne at full-back and Jason McCarthy make up the full-back line.

Seadna Morey is selected at wing-forward, a position in which he played at for Sixmilebridge underage before excelling at corner back for the Clare minors that won provincial titles in 2010 and 2011. Niall Deasy continues at centre-forward with Ian Galvin included at number ten.

Newmarket-on-Fergus’ Colin Guilfoyle is handed a successive start at the edge of the square where the lively duo of Mikey O’Neill and Podge Collins will hope to get their supply of breaking ball.
