Lissycaseyโ€™s Seamus Hayes has received the 2019 Clare Camogie Lifetime Achievement Award with Catriona McMahon announced as volunteer of the year.ย

On Friday night, Clare Camogie honoured Hayes with the accolade that has previously been awarded to Flan McInerney (Sixmilebridge) and Mary Hogan (Tulla) amongst others. Chairman Joe O’Donnell and PRO Brid MacNamara presented him with the award in light of his promotion of the game.

After forty nine years of service, Seamus finished up with The Clare Champion last August, he had been Sports Editor of the publication at the time. Since then, he has worked as a freelance journalist contributing to outlets such as The Irish Examiner, The Clare People and RTร‰ Sport.

A former Clare minor football goalkeeper, Seamus was referenced at Tuesdayโ€™s CSSL AGM with delegates including Mark Moloney of Hermitage FC acknowledging that he was โ€œa huge lossโ€ to local journalism. His contribution in securing frequent and comprehensive camogie coverageย  was one of the reasons in which he was handed the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ex county camogie player, Catriona McMahon was named as volunteer of the year. A four time senior championship winner with Newmarket-on-Fergus, โ€˜Catsโ€™ was lauded for her trojan contribution to her home club as she assisted with fundraising drives while also being involved with underage camogie teams and the U21 hurling team in 2019.

Championship top scorers were also recognised with Truagh/Clonlaraโ€™s Eimear Kelly (senior), Louise Woods of St Josephs Doora/Barefield (intermediate) and Chloe Philpott from Kilkishen (junior b) claiming the awards.
