Four time All Star, Brian Lohan has confirmed his interest in becoming manager of the Clare senior hurlers.

Over the weekend, the two time All-Ireland SHC winnerโ€™s name was linked with the vacant Clare job but The Clare Champion have confirmed that Lohan is indeed keen to be manager in 2020. Details of his backroom team are not yet known.

During his time in charge of a star studded UL team, the Wolfe Tones clubman led the college to glory in the 2014 competition overcoming WIT following a replay. They came up short the following year as Mary Immaculate College managed then by Eamon Cregan, claimed their first ever title. He was also involved with the Cratloe senior hurlers that competed in the 2014 Munster club championship.

He was coach of 2009 county minor team which was managed by Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor.ย He left his coaching position following their six point semi-final defeat to Waterford and was replaced by Paul Kinnerk in what was the Limerick manโ€™s first inter-county appointment.

Following Clareโ€™s exit from the Munster championship, Donal Moloney and Gerry Oโ€™Connorโ€™s three year term expired. Oโ€™Connor has since stepped down with Moloney putting his name forward to manage the side next year, the Scariff man has presented his proposed management to County Chairman Joe Cooney and Secretary Pat Fitzgerald.

Speaking to The Clare Echoย on Wednesday, Cooney outlined that he hoped to make progress over the weekend and though he could not reveal the identity of Lohan, he said, โ€œThere is other names there, we are doing interviews at the moment and there is a couple of names involved, whether they will still leave their name in the race or not we donโ€™t know but at the moment weโ€™re exploring other options and hopefully that will all be completed by the weekendโ€.

โ€œThe other ones are just looking at options, they havenโ€™t come back yet to put their name forward so we wonโ€™t be giving any names at the moment. Donal is the only one that has made it clear that he is interested in the job. Whatever the position will be will be known at the next County Board meetingโ€. Since then, Lohan did confirm that he is allowing his name to go forward.
