Gardaí investigating the murder of Aidan Kelly have arrested a man in his late thirties.

Aidan Kelly from Moyross was aged nineteen when he was shot a number of times on the night of 10th May 2006 at a laneway in Blackwater, Ardnacrusha after being lured there by his killers. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Kelly and his girlfriend were expecting the birth of their first child three weeks before his murder.

On Tuesday morning, Gardaí arrested a man in his late thirties, he is the first person to be arrested as part of the thirteen year investigation. He is currently detailed at Henry Street Garda Station under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Gardaí investigating the incident are appealing to anyone with information, no matter how insignificant they may think it is to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400 or the Garda confidential line on 1800-666-111.
