*Aideen McCormack.

Though the senior and junior Clare camogie sides failed to make Croke Park for All-Ireland final day, there may be some involvement with one coach from the county vying to be the named the most inspiration camogie coach in the country.

Launched by Liberty Insurance and RTÉ, the competition seeks to find the most inspirational camogie coach in all of Ireland. Over 200 entries were submitted and now the shortlist has been reduced to the top five with Aideen McCormack of the Banner camogie club in Ennis still standing.

Aideen is competing against representatives from Charlotte Brenner of De La Salle Camogie Club (Waterford), Cathal Pairceir from Good Counsel Camogie Club (Dublin), Edendork GAC’s (Dungannon) Peter Doherty and Anne Costelloe of Bredagh GAC (Belfast) in a public vote. The top two will compete at half-time of the All-Ireland senior camogie final with the chance of winning €700 for their club.

On the impact McCormack has within the Banner, a spokesperson for the club told The Clare Echo, “Aideen has a way of bringing out the best in the girls she is coaching and never fails to find something praiseworthy in each child, whether it’s a great pass or catch, a solo run, a save, or simply the back-up provided. To quote one of our players ‘Aideen has no favourites – everyone is equal and everyone gets an equal chance’. She is also wonderful at communicating with parents. There is no one better at getting parents involved in coaching and/or fundraising and she has earned the respect of everyone involved with the club”.
