Shannon’s much-anticipated cinema is to open by the end of 2019.

In mid-March of last year, SkyCourt lodged plans for a four-screen cinema which included a large 210 seater, one 90 seater and two smaller auditoriums with a capacity of 50 each. Clare County Council gave the green light to the project in May. That September, SkyCourt first announced their partnership with Omniplex Cinemas with a five screen theatre to open in early 2019.

However, an alteration is currently being carried out which will six screens installed in what was the old food court section of the shopping centre. As such, the opening which was re-scheduled for the autumn will now be postponed till the end of the year.

“Subtle changes in layout” will allow the provision of additional screens, Mark Anderson of Omniplex confirmed. “The changes will also facilitate operational & fire safety improvements and provide for an overall enhanced customer experience. The extra screen will also increase the number of films we can exhibit. We apologise for the slight delay in the development, but we are confident that the long terms benefits will be worth it,” the director with Ireland’s largest multiplex cinema chain stated.

“We are very excited regarding the cinema plans as well as for what is to come once the cinema is up and running. The addition of more screens will allow for more daily viewings of the latest releases,” Centre Manager of Skycourt, Dan O’Flynn commented.

Over the past year, Hook & Ladder and Paradise Boutique have opened their doors at the Shannon Town shopping centre which has a catchment of over 40,000 within a fifteen minute drive.
