Shannon’s Jack Lynch has signed with Galway Utd until the end of the 2019 SSE Airticity League season.

On Thursday, he became Alan Murphy’s first signing of the transfer window and came on from the bench in Friday’s 2-1 defeat to Cobh Ramblers. The twenty one year old has moved from Limerick Junior side Regional United.

Lynch’s League of Ireland career began in Limerick where he played at U17 and U19 before joining Waterford FC and was part of their squad that won the First Division title in 2017. He made a total of 11 appearances for the Blues’ before departing for a short spell with Cobh Ramblers.

Earlier this year, Jack who is comfortable as both a centre back and central midfielder helped UL reach the Collingwood Cup Final where they came up short against UCC in the decider.

Commenting on his first addition of the transfer window, Murphy was confident he would fit right in at Eamonn Deacy Park. “Jack has a bit of experience at this level. He’s trained with us for the last month or so and fits in well in terms of his hard work, application and technical ability. He definitely has something to prove. Jack is raring to go and wants to nail down a League of Ireland place. Jack probably has three or four different positions that we feel he can feature in.

“He’s comfortable on the ball and a good defender. He makes good recovery runs and has a little bit of pace also. We feel he’s definitely worth his chance and he’s going to have to hit the ground running too because it will be just 10 league games remaining after the mid-season break. Hopefully there will be 11 games for him to get involved in to show us what he can do.”

Jack joins fellow Clare men, Maurice Nugent, Jeff McGowan and Joe Collins who are current members of the Tribesmen squad.
