Clodagh Lawlor of Newmarket-on-Fergus had a twenty fourth birthday to remember as she made her debut on The Late Late Show and was also named the winner of the show’s search for a country music star.

Busking since the age of 17, Clodagh is no stranger to RTÉ screens having appeared on The Voice of Ireland in 2016. She was a member of the studio audience for last year’s country music special and made a promise to herself to be on the Late Late stage by the time the 2019 edition came around.

According to Lawlor, winning the competition is “a dream come true”. She also performed alongside Nathan Carter singing a duet to ‘Shallow’ in front of an audience which included her proud parents Donal and Mary. She will be back on the same stage as Carter, Clíona O’Hagan and Marty Mone at The Marquee in Cork on June 14th.

A two time senior camogie championship winner with Newmarket-on-Fergus, Clodagh toured parts of the US including Texas, South Dakota, Nashville, Washington, Montana, Wisconsin and Florida earlier this year with The Young Irelanders. She has said her ambition is “to fuse Irish Country with American Country”.

It caps off a busy week for the past pupil of St Flannan’s College which included presenting from the VIP Country Music Awards on Monday for Clodagh’s Country Mix, a show she presents on Keep It Country TV for Sky TV.
