A FIVE-DAY cycle from Mizen to Malin will take place to raise funds for Blackrock Hospice in memory and celebration of Ella McMahon (nee Costelloe) who sadly passed away in November last year after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Ella, originally from Sixmilebridge but living in Delgany, Co Wicklow, was a beautiful and inspirational lady. She was a loving and devoted mother to her two beloved children, Louis and Evie, a wonderful wife to her dedicated husband Jack as well as a loyal lifelong friend to many. Having attended St Joseph’s Secondary School in Tulla, Ella trained as a hairdresser and stylist. In 2001, she moved to Australia with Jack where they celebrated their wedding three years later. Their family was completed when they welcomed Louis and Evie in 2010 and 2012. Unfortunately Ella was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, however owing to her strength of character and resilience, she successfully battled it through a combination of treatment, diet and a positive mental attitude.
In 2014, they returned to Ireland where they settled in Delgany and Ella became actively involved in the Bray Musical Society. Unfortunately the cancer returned and despite further treatment, Ella lost her brave battle in November. She is sorely missed by the McMahon and Costelloe families and her many friends.
Ella’s husband Jack, who hails from Dromore in Ruan, and a group of his school friends from Rice College along with members of Ella’s family and other close friends are completing the Mizen to Malin challenge. The cycle kicks off in Mizen on May 2 with overnights in Killarney, Ennis, Knock, Rossnowlagh and finishes in Malin on May 6, covering c.700km overall. All participants are covering their own costs to ensure that any funds raised are donated to Blackrock Hospice, who took such wonderful care of Ella and were a vital support to her family.
