Sixmilebridge’s Jamie Shanahan is to miss the entire 2019 Munster senior hurling championship.

Having suffered from a long standing back complaint, Jamie went under the knife in mid-March and is currently on the mend but will not be in a position to line out in his county’s provincial campaign.

Though injuries have hindered the progression of Shanahan at senior level, he became a regular feature at half-back in last year’s championship as Clare reached the last four for the first time since 2013.

This setback comes as the Clare management already must plan without Conor Cleary for their opening game on May 12th away to Wateford. The Miltown Malbay defender is suspended having received a red card in their league defeat to the Déise. Should the Banner emerge from their province, it is hoped Jamie will be available on selection depending on his recovery.

Elsewhere on the injury front, Clonlara duo John Conlon and Colm Galvin returned to action on Saturday as they made it three wins from three in the Clare Cup overcoming Clooney/Quin. Management are confident Diarmuid Ryan (broken knuckle) and Shane Golden (hamstring strain) will return to training this week.

In his second competitive outing of the year, Shane O’Donnell once again hit two points as Éire Óg recorded a 2-25 1-15 win over Tubber as they continue their push for promotion to Division 1A of the Clare Cup.
