In the wake of Clare senior camogie’s side second defeat of the year, manager Ger O’Connor expressed his faith that they would “bounce back” in time for their group game of the league.
Clonlara’s O’Connell succeeded Trish O’Grady in the hotseat, his record thus far reads as one win, two defeats. After sticking with Limerick for large spells of last Saturday’s game, he felt their counterparts running game proved difficult to handle. “We had an even first half, second half Limerick looked much better, their running game caught us down the middle of the field and they were the better team in the second half, deserved to win”.
With ten weeks of training completed, Ger has been impressed by the effort of the panel to date. “It’s a whole new system and setup that we’re trying to do. It’s a process, we said to them it could get negative at times and we have to stick with it and they will, they have been brilliant for the last ten weeks we’ve been together, this is a setback but we’ve three weeks to prepare for Dublin. We will go back, meet Tuesday night and go over things to try improve what we need to improve”.
An away game with Dublin is their final outing in the group series of the Littlewoods Ireland National Camogie League. The former Clare goalkeeper maintained their trip to the capital will be a test of the panel’s character. “We’ve had two good performances up to now, second half didn’t go the way we wanted it to go but it’s in a work in progress, there will be setbacks and this is one of them and we’ll see how the girls bounce back”.
