Having secured an official Guinness World Record in August, ‘Knitters of the World’ and the Clare branch of the Irish Red Cross were recognised by Clare County Council.

Following a meeting of Ennis Municipal District on Wednesday, Mayor Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy and elected members acknowledged their achievement.

Produced by Valery Larkin and ‘Knitters of the World’ in Ennis, with the support of Irish Red Cross, the 21,471-ft2 blanket verified on 26 August 2018 by Guinness World Records for the ‘largest hand knitted blanket’. To mark the achievement a section of the blanket, featuring a poem on the theme of ‘community’ by Ciaran Collins from Darragh, was unveiled at Áras Contae an Chláir in Ennis.

Meanwhile, sections of the blanket are available for purchase through Irish Red Cross with all proceeds going directly to the voluntary organisation. See www.clareredcross.ie.
