More rain has fallen in the past hour (2-3pm) in Ennis than which was recorded in the last four weeks leading to spot flooding in the town.

Traffic delays are to be expected for motorists travelling along the Tulla Rd due to spot flooding caused by heavy rainfall on the R352 located just beneath the railway bridge in Ennis. Some motorists are driving along the footpaths to avoid the large pools of water.

Clare County Council said that they are “limited to what it can do until this intense rainfall ceases”. In a statement released to The Clare Echo, the local authority outlined the spot flooding “is simply down to the volume of rainfall over the past two hours during which almost of an inch of rain has been recorded in Ennis, more than what has fallen over the past 4 weeks. The Council is limited to what it can do until this intense rainfall ceases. It is expected that the flooding will subside over the coming hour as the rainfall eases”.

Ennis counciillor Mary Howard has appealed to motorists in the town to “avoid if it all possible”. Jean Clare is one driver that managed to get through the water. She told The Clare Echo that others driver should “avoid” the route and the water “is deep enough”.
