Ennis Labour activist Seamus Ryan is encouraging Leaving Certificate students to apply for the Party’s Richard O’Carroll Empowerment Bursary.

Worth €2,000 the bursary is aimed at students who have recently done or are doing the Leaving Certificate and have attended a Deis School. The bursary is named in memory of the leader of the Labour Group on Dublin Corporation, Councillor Richard O’Carroll.

Cllr O’Carroll was shot by a British officer on Camden Street on the 26th of April 1916 & died from his wounds 9 days later. He was also an official of the Brick and Stonelayers Trade Union.

Seamus Ryan told The Clare Echo, “All students from all backgrounds need the opportunity to thrive in third level education and providing a boost like this to someone can be a real help. People interested in applying for this bursary have until 5pm on Friday 5th October 2018. More information can be gotten on www.labour.ie or contacting me on seamusmryan@gmail.com”.
