Clare County Council, in conjunction with EPA Green Business and Kilrush Tidy Towns, will host the 2018 Green Business Seminar at the recently opened DigiClare Kilrush Hub on Monday 18 June at 9.00am.

James Hogan, EPA Green Businesses, who will be a speaker at the ceremony, says businesses of all sizes can make significant cost savings by focusing on waste in their business. “Every business creates unnecessary waste. This can often be due to complacency and bad habits. The free seminar to take place at the DigiClare Kilrush Hub, Kilrush Town Hall, on the 18th June will explore ways companies can reduce and eliminate waste in their business; including food waste, energy wastage and water wastage through simple no cost and low cost means”.

Speakers will also include Terry Fox, Cup Print, who will outline eco cup solutions available to businesses in the hospitality sector, while Cillian Murphy of Kilkee Enterprise Development company will outline the steps businesses are taking to support the ‘Make Kilkee Plastic Free’ initiative.

Nuala Mulqueeney of Ailwee Caves & Birds of Prey Centre and Orla Vaughan of Kilfenora Hostel will discuss the application and benefits of the Geopark Code of Practice to the Burren Ecotourism Network. Sarah Broderick, Clean Technology Centre, will close the seminar with a look at practical approaches to reducing food waste and cutting costs.

Karen Foley, Environmental Awareness Officer, Clare County Council, explained that the greening of businesses is “an integral part” of the Greener Clare programme, an environmental awareness initiative by Clare County Council to support and promote locally led environmental projects and initiatives.

She continued, “Greening of businesses not only helps reduce business costs associated with waste, energy and water but also helps support local tidy towns groups with their Tidy Towns entry.”

Seminar bookings can be made by emailing envawareness@clarecoco.ie or by telephoning 065 68 46 331. Registration will take place at the DigiClare Kilrush Hub, Kilrush Town Hall, Kilrush, Co. Clare, on 18 June 2018, at 9.00am with the seminar to take place between 9:30am and 12:30pm. The purpose of the seminar is to help businesses reduce waste as well as reduce costs.
