Polls remain open in Co Clare until 10pm as voters are asked to retain or replace the Eighth Amendment.

Across the country, ballots will be cast at more than 6,500 polling stations. 83,225 people in Clare are eligible to vote.

It has been reported that the national turnout will exceed that of the 2015 Marriage Referendum. 59% of voters went to the polls in Clare and 58.75% of them voted in favour of the referendum five years ago.

Figures from 1pm indicate a steady turnout with the lunchtime period expected to be a busy one.

Voters are reminded to bring their polling card along with identification such as a driver’s license or passport. Those without a polling card should bring identification and also proof of address.
