THERE are few greater honours in this world than having a dog named after you, let alone a stability dog.

Kilkee adventurer and charity campaigner Dermot Cosgrove was given this very privilege when Dogs for the Disabled called one of their newest recruits “Kossie”.

“It’s kind of cool thinking that this pup is going to go on and help some kid get around and have a better quality of life,” Dermot added.

Dermot collected a whopping €11,000 last year when he trekked around the Arctic Circle to raise money for Dogs for the Disabled.

He was inspired to raise money for the charity when he saw the incredible work that they do, providing assistance dogs for the disabled.

“My sister is a puppy socialiser for Dogs for the Disabled. She’s being doing that now for more than 10 years, so I’ve seen the work that she does and I’ve known about the work that Dogs for the Disabled does over the years,” Dermot added.

Dermot plans to take on another epic journey this year, hiking through the Pyrenees for 10 days this summer.

However, the main event doesn’t take place until next year, when Dermot will walk from the north coast of Iceland to the south.
