The Bin It crew at Mary Immaculate Secondary School, Lisdoonvarna

ENVIRONMENTALLY conscious Clare students have rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in to Bin It! workshop, a nationwide campaign to educate and raise student awareness of littering.

Students from St Michael’s Community College, Kilmihil and Mary Immaculate Secondary School, Lisdoonvarna participated in the event, which features an actor led workshop aimed at first year students.

Gum Litter Taskforce Chairman Paul Kelly said the aim of the campaign is to change attitudes of litter bugs.

“The Bin It! tour has proven to be an extremely effective, fun and interactive means of getting the important GLT gum disposal message to younger audiences.

“We’re seeing its effectiveness reflected not only in the attitudes and awareness research results but also in the increasing number of participants in the tour workshops,” he added.

The workshop tour is supported by a website www.chewitbinit.com which includes games and quizzes for students, lesson plans, teachers’ notes, posters and activity cards to help integrate the theme of responsible litter disposal into the curriculum.

The future is in safe hands, good job guys!
