Both pedestrians and motorists are at risk due to parking on a dangerous bend in South-East Clare.

Parking on the bend outside the Burlington Plant at Gillogue has been examined by officials within the Shannon Municipal District with a suitable course of action to be followed.

It comes on foot of a motion from Cllr Michael Begley (IND) who requested the installation of double yellow lines. His call was seconded by Cllr Pat Oโ€™Gorman (FF).

Despite the car park at the Burlington Plant remaining closed, people have continued to walk in the area and left their vehicles outside, Cllr Begley detailed, โ€œThe result is you canโ€™t see oncoming traffic and they canโ€™t see youโ€. Bollards were erected by Gardaรญ but were gone within the space of 24 hours. โ€œTheir recommendation was double yellow lines so that they could police them,โ€ he added.

โ€œItโ€™s one or the other, we will have to open up the car park in the short-term or get double yellow lines,โ€ senior engineer Aidan Oโ€™Rourke stated.

A reduction in traffic heading in the direction of the University of Limerick has been visible, Cllr Begley commented. The Clonlara representative suggested that by opening up a section of the car park, eight or ten cars would get in which would solve the problem.
