Co Clare is now thirteen days without a new case of COVID-19 while across the country six more deaths and a further five cases have been confirmed.

A total of 1,726 people have died from COVID-19 following confirmation from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) that six more people had died within the past 24 hours.

In what is the second lowest amount of new cases confirmed in the space of 24 hours this month, the HPSC have said a further five people have tested positive for the virus. It brings to 25,396 the total amount of confirmed cases since the outbreak.

Latest detail for Co Clare which is from Monday (June 21st) has revealed that for the thirteenth day in succession no new case has been attributed to the county.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan in a statement on Wednesday evening highlighted that Ireland had moved in the right direction in fighting community transmission of the virus.

โ€œAs we go forward, the behaviour and progression of this disease is in all of our hands. Every single one of us today has the ability to reduce the impact the virus might have on our most vulnerable and those at risk. You can do this by keeping a physical distance from others or wearing a face covering when in busy public places like shops and public transport, and by continuing to keep your number of daily contacts as low as possible.โ€
