Confirmation has been issued from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) that 3 more people have died and 8 further cases of COVID-19 are known with no additional cases in Co Clare.

A total of 1,710 people have now died in the Republic of Ireland as a result of COVID-19. It follows the confirmation of three more deaths on Wednesday evening. Two deaths have been de-notified by the HPSC.

8 extra cases have been recorded in the space of 24 hours bringing the total amount of personnel diagnosed in the country to 25,341 following the de-notification of one confirmed case.

In Co Clare, no new case has been recorded for the sixth day in succession. Since the outbreak of the virus here at the beginning of May, 369 people have tested positive for it, however the figure has remained stagnant over the past three weeks.

Ireland’s recovery rate is now at 92%, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn confirmed. “This and other indicators such as the reproductive number, hospital admissions and ICU admissions are stable or moving in the right direction. This is good news that has been achieved through the collective efforts of every person who has followed public health advice”.

Thursday morning’s meeting of NPHET will review Ireland’s outgoing response and preparedness to COVID-19.
