TREE maintenance has been carried out on Corrib Drive in Drumgeely following concerns about visibility and pedestrian safety.
The update was given at the September meeting of the Shannon Municipal District following a Notice of Motion from Leas-Chathaoirleach of the district Cllr David Griffin (FF).
Cllr Griffin had called for better tree maintenance on Corrib Drive in the interest of visibility and pedestrian safety.
In a written response, A/Senior Executive Engineer Caimin Dillon said the trees had been assessed in terms of pedestrian safety and that trimming of low-hanging branches had been carried out in recent weeks to improve visibility.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Griffin said the trees had now been cut, but this had not been the case when he submitted his motion.
He said the work had taken around 12 months to be completed and argued that tree maintenance in the municipal district needed to be more proactive.
Cllr Griffin said smaller jobs should not necessarily have to wait for contractors and suggested the council should be able to deal with some works directly.
He also complimented council staff on the work that had ultimately been carried out.
Cllr Tony Mulcahy (FG) seconded the motion and said he had before-and-after photographs showing the difference made by the work.
He said the council had done a “super job”.
