A CENTRAL figure in Kilmaley’s return to a first senior camogie final in twelve years was Eimear Considine to see her named as the Clare Credit Unions / The Clare Echo player of the week.
Reaching a semi-final would have been considered a legitimate target for Kilmaley when they set out in the championship but they caused a big upset when deservingly seeing off Scariff/Ogonnelloe in Saturday’s semi-final.
It tees up a novel decider against Truagh/Clonlara and a first appearance in the county final since 2014 for Kilmaley.
Serving as no coincidence in Kilmaley making it to the big day is the return of Eimear Considine to the camogie fold. A four-time winner with the club in their successes of 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014, she had a big influence on their fourth round win over Newmarket-on-Fergus which put them on their way to the knockout stages.
In Saturday’s three point win over Scariff/Ogonnelloe, Eimear’s influence at centre back had a big bearing on the outcome,
Her work rate, ability to win possession and willingness to drive forward provided Kilmaley with an important outlet when their opponents began to press. She was also involved in one of the key moments of the closing stages, driving forward before supplying an excellent pass to Grace Carmody, who made no mistake in firing over the bar to give them a two point advantage.
