*The Clare community is being encouraged to get behind a 100km fundraising challenge taking place on Thursday, 24 September, as Circle K continues its nationwide efforts to raise more than €200,000 for Pieta. The Shannon Bikeathon forms part of a series of fundraising events being held across Ireland, with all funds raised supporting Pieta’s life-saving suicide and self-harm prevention services.
PEOPLE in Clare are being invited to take part in a Bikeathon at Circle K Shannon next week as part of a nationwide fundraising campaign for Pieta.
The event will take place at Circle K on Tullyvarraga Road, Shannon, on Thursday, September 24, from 9am to 5pm.
Members of the public, customers and Circle K colleagues will take turns using static gym bikes outside the service station, with a collective target of cycling 100 kilometres.
The bikes are being supplied by Anthony from AeroSpinning at Shannon Swimming and Leisure Centre in support of the fundraiser.
The Shannon event forms part of Circle K’s Coast to Coast campaign, which aims to raise more than €200,000 for Pieta’s suicide and self-harm prevention services.
Members of the public can take part by signing up for a 30-minute cycling slot, with availability to be confirmed through Circle K Shannon or Store Manager Iwona Perec Chrapek.
Cyclists are asked to aim to raise €50 each, with all funds going towards Pieta.
Donations can also be made in Circle K stores, through the Circle K app or via the campaign’s iDonate page.
Paul Dixon, Managing Director of Circle K Ireland, said the company was “delighted” to bring the Coast to Coast campaign to Shannon and give the local community an opportunity to get involved.
“This event is just one of several fundraising activities taking place across the country forming part of this year’s Coast to Coast initiative, all working towards our most ambitious fundraising target to date of more than €200,000,” he said.
Stephanie Manahan, Chief Executive Officer of Pieta, said the campaign was about people coming together to ensure that those experiencing suicidal distress, self-harm or suicide bereavement do not have to face it alone.
“Every euro raised helps Pieta keep our free, professional therapy services and 24/7 Crisis Helpline available for people at the moments they need us most,” she said.
Circle K began a three-year partnership with Pieta in January 2026, with a commitment to raise €1 million over the course of the partnership.
