EAST CLARE GOLF Club are this week celebrating a fantastic victory after their team of Eileen Donnellan, Rachel Whelan and Loretto O’Donnell were crowned Munster Cup champions on Friday in Adare Manor Golf Club, beating 40 other Munster teams. The winners finished three points clear of runners up Mallow.
In the ladies masters competition on Sunday the winner was Noreen Skehan (26) with a nett 69. She won on a countback from Noreen Doyle (24).
The winner of the Golfer of the Year competition is Bridget Minogue.
The ladies Wednesday competition was won by Connie McKenna, Eimear O’ Halloran and Breda Reid from Mary Hogan, Margaret Lynch and Liz McMahon with third place filled by Annette Rowan, Marie A. Kelly, Mary Farrell.
Last week’s senior men’s competition was won by Paul Husband, Ger Hoey and Nick Ryan with 98 from Brian Torpey, Michael Heffernan and Kieran McNamara with 81 with third place filled by Chris Davis, Pierce O’ Shiel and John Collins with 80.
Friday’s mixed scramble was won by Chris Davis, Pierce O’Shiel and Jim Lynch from John Nihill, Mary Farrell, Ailbe McDonnell and Brian Corry.
Dromoland Golf Club:
Dromoland’s Junior Cup team lost out to Arklow GC at Millicent Golf Club in the All Ireland quarter final. The Wicklow club won four matches to Dromoland’s one. Dromoland’s team members were Derek Ryan, Mark Downes, Gavin O’Reilly, Shane O’Brien and Adam Merriman.
The club’s mixed fourball team booked their place in the All-Ireland semi-final following a 2 1/5 to 1 1/5 victory over Rathfarnham GC at Westmanstown Golf Club at the weekend.
Deirdre Cooney and Niall Geraghty won 3 and 2 as did Frances Bergin and Billy O’Sullivan. Trish O’Brien and Adrian Glynn halved their match while Siobhan Dyar and Philip Aldritt were defeated 4 and 2.
Cathal Boyce won the men’s 18-hole stableford competition at Dromoland at the weekend with 42 points. He had one to spare over Chris O’Donovan with Shane Mowat, also with 41 points, in third place.
Greg Delahunt won the category for handicappers of 20 and over with 34 points while the gross was won by Shane O’Brien with 36 points.
Con Ryan won the men’s 9 hole competition with 21 points from Alfred Jones with 20 with Willie Fuller in third place with 19 points.
The ladies 9 hole weekly competition was won by Aislinn Keogh with 22 points from Mary Arthur with 21 with Mairead Bergin, also with 21, in third place.
Kilrush Golf Club:
The ESB men’s open singles at Kilrush at the weekend was won by Michael Studdert (21) with 44 points and he was one ahead of Evan Coughlan (24) with third place filled by Fergal O’Grady (15) with 40 points. Shea Fennell won the gross with 30 points.
The L and L K Fitt ladies singles at Kilrush was won by Anne Cooper (38) with 37 points while the category winners were Mary Nolan (19 ) with 35 points, Marion Brennan (28) with 32 points and Martina Fox (41) with 27 points.
Woodstock Golf Club:
Woodstock captured the Costelloe Cup with a one point victory over Ennis at Woodstock on Sunday.
The winners had a total of 212 points from their top five pairings, one more that the total for the top five Ennis pairings.
The scoring Woodstock pairings were Ollie McNamara and Liam McInerney with 45 points, Sean Colleran and Eugene Conroy with 44 points, John O’Donovan and Kieran Patton with 43 points, Pat Solon and Michael Canty with 40 points and Martin Nugent and Michael Hogan, also with 40 points.
The scoring Ennis pairings were P.O’Leary / A.Turner with 45 points, F.Lyons / J.McNamara with 42 points, S.Rynne / J.Horgan with 42 points, B.Vaughan / K.O’Brien with 41 and J.Kearns / M.Kearney with 41 points.
Chris McNamara (25) with 39 points was last week’s winner of the AMR open singles at Woodstock and he also captured category C honours.
Category 1 was won by Ronan Kilroy (7) with 38 points while the category 2 winner was David Duhig (12) from Shannon with 39 points.
Chris McNamara has qualified for the last spot of 16 in the Grand Final. He joins John Dreelan, William De Oliveira, Kenneth Fielding, Matty Nugent, Declan Reidy, Ger Browne, Ronan Horgan, Mark Sweeney, Liam Browne, David Conroy, Vincent O’Grady, Brian Mulcahy, Paudie O’Connell, Niell Reynolds and Ruairi Breen in the final.
Forty one played in last week’s competition when the winner in the 2’s competition was Stephen Clancy at the 11th hole.
The weekend competition was a singles v Par which was won by Gerry Walsh (27) with +3. Category 1 was won by Ray Keogh (3) with +2 from Tony Nugent (1) with +1. Eoin Collins (12) with +2 won category 2 on a countback from Sean Williams (14) while the category 3 winner was Aaron Lavery (23) with +2.
Winners in the 2’s competition were Gerry Hayes (8th hole) and Cathal Nagle (6th hole). The open singles continues on this Thursday while the weekend competition will be the Sweet’n’Green September medal 2026.
Kathleen McEnery is wished well as she heads to Charlivelle Golf Club on Friday to play in the Bronze Medal winners prize.
Good wishes also go to Eilis Neville as she plays in the Captains Prize winners competition in Roscrea.
This week’s seniors outing on Tuesday was a team of three which was won by Robbie Dormer, Michael Foley and Ger Browne with 80 points.
In second place with 76 points were Gerdi Griffey, Liam McInrney and Ludwig Plutzner.
Ennis Golf Club:
The senior men’s group at Ennis had an outing to Tipperary on Monday last when the winners were Tommy Timpson, Garry Cunningham, Seamus Bowe and Jimmy with 99 points.
They had three to spare over Tom Saunders, Kieran O’Loughlin, Mike Irwin and Dave Boylan with Padraig Cusack, Jim Casey, Ollie Kennelly, and Declan Hanley in third place a point further back on 95 points.
They were followed by Tony McInerney, Liam McCannon, Willie Donnellan and Michael Clancy with 95, Senan Ryan, Tom Gallery, Tom Woulfe and Sean Ryan also with 95.
In sixth place with 93 points were Ollie O’Loughlin, Kieran Patton, Tom Fox and Tim Kelly followed by Mike Meagher, Michael Kerin, Joe O’Brien and Bernard Hanrahan with 92 with eighth place filled by Patrick Murphy, Peter Quinn, Neil Cremin and Paul Kenny with 91.
Thursday’s weekly senior men’s competition was won by Pat G McInerney, Martin Coffey, Tim Kelly and Damon Murphy with 76 points, two ahead of Steve Burns, Michael Cusack, Neil Cremin and Gerry Kelly. In third place with 72 points were Patrick Murphy, Paul Kenny, Dominick Murra and, Jim Hennessey followed by Vincent Corbett, Conor Murphy, John Lillis and Frank Cullinan with 71. In fifth place, also with 71 points, were Don Ryan, Peter Quinn, Seamus Hanrahan and Ollie Kennelly followed by Terry O Hare, Declan Hanley and PJ Garry with 70 points.
Last week’s senior ladies 14 hole competition was won by Jackie Quinlan, Margaret Flanagan and Jacintha McNicholas with 49.5. In second place with 50.3 were Martina Corbett, Anne Daly and Margaret McEnery followed by Brid Cunnigham, Mary Kearns and Ada McMahon with 51.
The ladies 18 hole fourball better ball competition was won by Josephine Tone (31) and Marie Connolly (42) with 43 points one more than Anna Marie Darmody (30) and Monica Finnerty (28) with third place filled by Patricia O’Reilly (31) and Attracta Williams (29) with 41 points.
The 9 hole stableford competition was won by Ann Casey (17) with 20 points from Liz Kelly (26) with a similar score.
The divisions were won by Carmel Verling (12) with 17 points, Ceilie Reilly (19) with 19 points and Valerie Wall (23) with 20 points.
Shannon Golf Club:
A team of four modified waltz at Shannon was won by Peter McEvoy (13), Brian Murphy (24), Conor O’Callaghan (15) and Adam O’Connor (13) with 105 points.
They had one to spare over Benny O’Shea )16), Gerry Monaghan (25), Philip Ryan (26) and Gary Fitzgibbon (8).
Wednesday’s men’s open singles was won by Conor Croke (10) with 42 points from Don O’Shea (11) with 39 with third place filled by Eoin O’Donoghue (11) also with 39 points.
Last week’s men’s green tee challenge was won by Kevin Meehan (10) with 39 points from Bryan Power (2) with 37. Stephen Litherland (12) was third with 37 points while the gross was won by Niall Fitzgerald |(+3) with 38 points.
Last week’s men’s 9 hole competition was won by Barry Meaney (10) with 18 points.
Gort Golf Club:
The men’s 18 hole singles at Gort last weekend was won by Kevin Moran (6) with 41 points.
The category winners were Damien Burke (10) with 39 points, Sean Daly (18) with 39 points and Adrian Nolan (23) with 37 points. The gross was won by Joe Moran (1) with 36 points. Friday’s 18 hole singles was won by P J McAllen (5) with 41 points.
