MORE THAN 65,000 passengers are expected through Shannon Airport over the August Bank Holiday weekend in what is a seven percent increase for the same period in 2025.

A strong Bank Holiday forecast is in line with Shannon Airport’s continued growth in 2026. The airport welcomed 1.17 million passengers during the first six months of the year, a 12% increase on the same period in 2025.

Growth has been supported by the airport’s expanded schedule, which this year includes 40 routes, its largest route network in 17 years, together with increased European and transatlantic capacity. New services to destinations including Rome, Madrid, Warsaw, Poznan and Frankfurt, along with additional frequencies on key routes, have further strengthened connectivity for passengers across the region.

Ray O’Driscoll, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming more than 65,000 passengers through Shannon Airport over the August Bank Holiday period, reflecting the strong demand we continue to see from both business and leisure travellers and the growing appeal of our expanded route network”.

He continued, “The strong growth we are seeing in passenger numbers is being matched by growing confidence in Shannon Airport as an aviation and economic hub. Ryanair’s recent announcement of plans for a €50 million investment in a new maintenance facility and Engineering Academy at Shannon, supporting more than 400 highly skilled jobs, is a major endorsement of the airport, the region and the opportunities for future growth.

“We remain focused on enhancing the passenger experience, investing in our infrastructure and supporting tourism, connectivity and economic growth across the region,” O’Driscoll added.

Shannon Airport has continued to invest in infrastructure and customer experience improvements, including upgrades currently underway in the arrivals area and baggage hall.

Passengers travelling this August Bank Holiday are encouraged to plan ahead and arrive in good time for their flights. Shannon Airport offers five car parks located between a 30-second and seven-minute walk from the terminal building, while the Shannon Airport App and pre-booked parking options can help make journeys even more convenient.
