AN ELEVEN year old girl who was missing in Shannon has been found alive and well.

Missing since the early hours of Monday morning, the girl was located shortly before 4pm on Monday evening.

Her family and Gardaí were extremely concerned for her welfare. The matter was treated as high risk by An Garda Síochána.

Clare Civil Defence co-ordinated the search with Gardaí and the Clare County Fire and Rescue Service. The girl was described as being five foot tall with straight blonde hair and looking old for her age with an interest in water and buses.

Search parties had been based at the overflow car park of Shannon Crematorium.

Clare TD, Donna McGettigan (SF) was among those delighted to hear the girl had been located safely. She was involved in the search to find the girl. “Thank God she has been safe and well, fair play to all that took place in search, I want to thank the civil service who guided and coordinated us, our local fire Brigade who participated in the search and all are relieved. Our local musical society spread the word out originally and had their members starting the search”.
