CLARE HURLER, David Reidy is recovering well and has been released from hospital.
During Saturday’s thirteen point All-Ireland SHC quarter-final win over Dublin, injuries were sustained by David Reidy, Conor Cleary and David McInerney. Reidy and Cleary requiring trips to hospital following the game.
Having been initially introduced as a temporary substitute for four minutes at the beginning of the second half, Reidy was back on the field when replacing Ryan Taylor with sixty four minutes played.
However, two minutes on from this, a high challenge by substitute Brendan Kenny resulted in a red card for the Dublin attacker and a head injury for Reidy which left the Ennis man in need of a stretcher to leave FBD Semple Stadium.
He was treated on the field for nine minutes by the Clare medical team with assistance from the Dublin medics and the Order of Malta. Dublin attacker John Hetherton who works as a Garda was quick to offer assistance to Reidy as he lay on the ground.
In a statement on Sunday, Clare GAA confirmed that David “has been released from hospital and is recovering well following the injury he sustained in yesterday’s game”.
They paid tribute to the first responders and medical teams from Clare, Dublin along with the staff of FBD Semple Stadium “for the outstanding care and attention provided. Many thanks to all who have sent messages of support and well wishes to David”.
Shane O’Donnell was among the first Clare teammates to check in on Reidy. “It was scary enough. Fortunately, I think he will be okay. We’ll see in a few days, but he looked better than he did in the first 30 seconds of it,” he stated in Semple Stadium.
Clare manager Brian Lohan confirmed that Reidy, along with Cleary, were taken to hospital for further treatment.
With attention turning to the All-Ireland semi-final, Clare’s senior hurlers completed a recovery session in White Strand, Miltown Malbay on Sunday morning.
