The official blessing and opening of the refurbished clubhouse at Lahinch will take place on Sunday (May 31), commencing at 6.00pm.

The ceremony will be followed by a canapé and drinks reception in the bar and restaurant and all members are invited to join in the celebrations.

The captain’s (John Gleeson) prize to the lady members takes place on Sunday. Later that evening, following the clubhouse opening ceremony, prize presentations will take place in the clubhouse commencing at 9pm.

The following prizes will be presented;Men’s Club: Visitors Cup (Simon Morris); May Medal (Jim Carmody); Shaw Cup (Paul Horan) and the John P McInerney Cup (winner to be decided)). Ladies’ Club: Burns-Lindow Cup (Kate Doyle); May Medal (Angela Cullinan); Barratt-Smith Cup (Karen White) and the Men’s Captain’s Prize to the Ladies.

On the inter club scene, the Ladies Minor Foursomes team, managed by Jane Ryder and Olivia Lucas lost away to Ennis GC 3.5/1.5 while the Ladies Challenge Cup team, managed by Kyra Donworth and Jacqueline Joyce also suffered defeat away to Spanish Point GC.

On this Thursday the Ladies Intermediate Foursomes team, managed by Fiona McCarthy and Lynn Slattery) are away to Dromoland with the match commencing at 3.00pm while on Sunday the Irish Mixed Foursomes team managed by Maire Hanrahan and Gerry Pierse) host Castletroy with their match also commencing at 3.00pm. On the bank holiday Monday, the Ladies Revive Active team managed by Marjorie Ahern take on Woodstock GC at home with the match due to start at 3.30pm.

Ennis Golf Club:

Ennis Ladies were victorious in the preliminary round of the Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy inter-club competition against East Clare.

Trailing by four matches heading into the second leg on Saturday in Ennis, the team produced an outstanding comeback by winning all five matches to secure an overall 6–4 victory. Ennis will now face Mallow in the next round.

The team is managed by Mary Lenihan and Patricia Moroney and the pairings last week were Ann and Helen Gallery; Bridie Hanrahan and Della Burns; Patricia Moroney and Martina Corbett, Mary Lenihan and AnneMarie Darmody; Peg Hanrahan and Una O’Reilly.

The club’s Minor Foursomes’ ladies were also victorious, beating Lahinch on Sunday in Ennis winning on a margin of 3.5 to 0.5. They will meet Dromoland in the quarter-final of the Munster West inter club competition on Saturday June 13.

The team is managed by Mary M. McMahon and last week’s line up was Helen Gallery and Martina Corbett; Brid Cunningham and Patricia O’Reilly; Geraldine O’Rourke and Ethna Murphy; Joan Murphy and Attracta Williams.

Meanwhile the intermediate foursomes team lost out to Shannon last week.

Last week’s men’s singles stableford competition, a golfer of the year event, was won by Desmond Ryan (24) with 46 points from Barry Larkin (9) with 39 points with third spot filled by John McInerney (6) with 38 points. Martin Moran won the gross with 31 points.

The categories were won by Enda Heaney (11) with 38 points, Colman O’Connor (14) with 39 points, Joe Carmody (19) with 38 points and Seamus Frehill (23) with 38 points.

The senior ladies scramble was won by Brid Cunnigham, Una O’Reilly and Clare Pyne with 50.1 from Carmel Verling, Mary Kearns and Marie Connolly with 54.87.

In the ladies 18 hole May medal competition the winner in the silver category of the 18 hole strokeplay outing was Mary Lenihan (16) with 76 nett From Ann A. Gallery (13) with a similar score.

In the bronze category the winner was Mary Curley (57) with 69 nett from Maureen Lynch (33) with 72 nett.

The overall winner in the ladies 9 hole competition was Sinead O’Sullivan (19) with 19 points and she won by one from Nuala Healy (12).

Division 2 was won by Patricia O’Reilly (16) with 17 points while Sadie Moloney (20) with 18 points won division 3.

Last week’s senior men’s competition was won by James Corcoran, Gerry Daly, Michael Torpey and Frank Coffey with 74 points and they were one ahead of Michael Cummins, Gerry Scanlan, Matt Flynn and Paul Kenny.

In third place with 72 points were Patrick Murphy, Liam Barry, Michael O’Reilly and Tommy Heath followed by John C McNamara, Tony Kehoe, Séamus Hanrahan and Jim Sheridan with 70 points while fifth place was filled by Eamonn Corry, Conor Murphy, Dominick Murray and Dave Berry with 69 points.

Kieran Ryan (24) was the winner of the Friday open singles with 39 points from Robert Cantwell (6) (Woodstock Golf Club) with 36 points with third place filled by Graham Wilkins (17) with 35 points.

East Clare Golf Club:

Captain T.J. McNamara’s prize will be played for at East Clare this weekend and a big turnout of members is expected.

In last week’s ladies 18 hole stroke competition the overall winner was Deirdre O’ Neill (33) with 70 nett. The category winners were Eileen Donnellan (16) with 75 nett, Bridget Minogue (31) with 75 nett and Brid Gurnett (37) with 89 nett.

Michael McMahon (17) with 67 nett won the men’s stroke competition from Diarmuid Cunningham (19) with 68 with third place filled by John Nihill (21) with 68.

Eoin Magill (-3) won the gross with 68 while Eoin Magill and Michael McInerney were birdie winners.

The senior men’s competition was won by Danny Minogue, Tom Larkin and Donal Flemin from Chris Davis, Willie Roche and Terry Coughlan with third place filled by Kieran McNamara, Denis Corcoran and Mike Heffernan.

Friday’s mixed scramble was won by Breda O’Loghlin, Brendan Moloney and Chris Davis from Pat McNamara, Carol Ann O’Sullivan and Jim Lynch with third spot filled by Carmel Dillon, Mary Farrell and Pat Duggan.

Shannon Golf Club:

The green tee challenge at Shannon was won by Maurice Egan (19) with 41 points from Andy McInerney (12) with 39. In third place with 38 points was Niall Mullone (13) followed bvy Peter McEvoy (13) with 38 with fifth spot filled by Niall Murphy (10) with 36 points.

Derek O’Neill (10) won the open singles with 37 points. Pat Hastings (19) also with 37 points was second followed by John McEntee (16) with 36 points. Fergus Coughlan (8) won the gross with 28 points.

The men’s team of four competition was won by Liam Heffernan (14) . John Breen (15), Michael Walsh (24) sand Michael McCormack (19) with 87 points.

Damian Casey (1) won the men’s blue tee challenge with 35 points while the men’s 9 hole competition was won by Stephen Keogh (10) with 23 points.

Dromoland Golf Club:

The ladies player of the year competition at Dromoland was won by Jean Colleran with 41 points. She was one ahead of Leslie O’Flynn with Deirdre Cooney in third spot with 37 points followed by Katrina O’Neill with 36 points. Mairéad Toomey won the gross.

Siobhan Doohan with 23 points won the weekly 9 hole competition from
Liz Skehan with 21 points.

The men’s 18 hole stroke competition was won by Kevin Shanagher with 66 nett. In second place with 72 nett was Enda Finnucane followed by Paudie Dorgan with 73 and P.J. Conway with 74. Ross Kenny won the gross with 74.

Brian Foudy won the 9 hole competition with 19 points from Kevin Shanagher with a similar score with third place filled by Tony Cotgreave with 18 points.

Woodstock Golf Club:

The Ozone Health and Fitness May medal was the competition at Woodstock at the weekend when the winner was Colin Higgins (15) with 68. The gross was won by Brian Gilligan (+2) with 73. Category 1 was won by Ronan O’Looney (7) with 70 from Rob Cantwell (6) with 72.

Donnacha Dunne (18) won category 2 with 72 from Chris McGrath (12) with 73 while category 3 was won by Tommy Flynn (20) with 78.

Winners in the 2’s competition were Brian Gilligan (11th), Denis Ryan (8th) and Paudie O’Connell (4th).

Michael Lynch (34) won the singles for handicapper of 16 and over with 43 points.

In the AMR golf open singles, John Dreelan (10) was the overall winner with 41 points. He has qualified for the grand prize final at the end of the summer.

Tom O’Donoghue (18) won category 2 with 36 points while Liam Browne (28) won category 3 with 35 points.

Winners in the 2’s competition were Robbie Dormer (11th), Jason dormer (11th) and rob Cantwell (4th).

The open singles continues this Thursday while the weekend competitions will include a club singles in the masters order of merit, sponsored by Breen Building Design.

There will also be a modified team of two where both players will tee off, then swap balls for 2nd shots sand then select the preferred ball for the 3rd shot and play alternate shots from there until the ball is holed.

This week’s seniors outing was won by Paul Sherlock, John O’Donovan, Tom Dormer and Nick Germaine with 73 points.

Brian Gilligan has won the Donal Kenny scratch matchplay for 2025. Brian made a great comeback against a gallant Tony Nugent, coming from 2 down with 3 to play to win on the 18th hole, 1up, in the final played on Tuesday evening. The competition was sponsored by K. Cunnane Painting Contractors Ltd.

Brian previous won the title in 2023 when he also beat Tony in the final. Tony lost out to Ross Kenny Junior in the 2024 final.
The 2026 installment of this competition will be up and running by next Monday, the draw to be made on Sunday evening. This competition is open to members within handicap range of + to 9 (8.2 index and below) Juniors that fit this criteria are eligible to enter.

Format is 18 hole Matchplay (White Tees) played off scratch. Seeding by handicap will apply. This year’s competition will be in house only due to time constraints but it’s hoped to return to inviting Ennis and Kilrush back in next year.

JB Carr final:

Shannon hold a slender lead over Woodstock heading into the second leg in the Clare final of the JB Carr seniors competition.

At Shannon on Friday last the hosts emerged with a 3-2 lead which they carry into this week’s second leg at Woodstock.

Representing Shannon last week were Ger O’Halloran and Pat Hickey; Jodie O’Connor and Adrian Treacy; Sean Bourke and Joe McGrath; Alan Fitzgerald and Ciaran Carmody; John Collins and William O’Brien.

The Woodstock pairings were Declan Coote and Ollie McNamara; Sean Williams and Ger Griffey; Joe Keane and Tommy Flynn; Paddy Meehan and Tony Coote; Paul Coote and Michael O’Brien.

Gort Golf Club:

The men’s competition at Gort last week was the subscription stages, an 18 hole stableford event sponsored by O ‘Donnell. Keane & Co.

The winner was Trevor Cummins (8) with 46 points while the category winners were Padraic Landers (7) with 43 points, Brian Monaghan (17) with 41 points and Gerry Glynn (26) with 36 points. The gross was won by Kris Finnegan (0) with 35 points.

The Friday open singles saw Joseph Caulfield (9) with category 1 with 38 points. Category 2 was won by Shane Byrne (15) with 38 points with the category 3 honours going to Padraig Connole (20) with 46 points. The gross was won by Mark Deegan (3) with 31 points.

The ladies singles stableford competition was won by Marion Mulvey Fahy (34) with 42 points from Ann Jordan (18) with 40 points.

Kilrush Golf Club:

The AON physiotherapy ladies 18 hole stroke competition at Kilrush was won by Ailish Lorigan (21) with 65 nett. In second place was Grace Howard (37) with 70 nett followed by Agnes Shannon (25) with 75 nett.
The gross was won by Mary Nolan (19) with 92 while the nines were won by Ursula Lineen with 36nett and Mary Downes with 36.5 nett.

Fanny O’Deas society:

Lahinch was the venue on Saturday last for an outing for the members of the Fanny O’Deas golf society when the format on the day was a champagne scramble.

The competition was sponsored by Brid and Niall Coughlan, Coffee Rush and the winners with 105.5 were Brendie McMahon, Peter O Leary, Liam Kelly, and Nigel Lynch with second place filled by Jim Carmody, Tim Shanahan, Tom Monahan, and Mark Jackson who had 101.3.

The next outing will be on Saturday June 20 when members will compete for captain Alan Carmody’s prize at Ennis.
