Mairead Bergin is the player of the year in the ladies section at Dromoland golf club.
The end of year competition winners were confirmed at the weekend when Trish O’Brien was announced at the winner of the Lady Inchiquin match play, defeating Frances Bergin in the final.
The Anne Fahy foursomes was won by Julie Fitzgerald and Cathy Casey who defeated Joan Ryan and Mairéad Bergin in the final. Cora O’Toole won the silver medal while the bronze medal winner was Ann Nix.
Meanwhile the men’s weekend competition was won by Billy O’Mahony with 19 points with John Hayes second and Thomas Cooney in third place, both scoring 18 points. The ladies festive 9 hole competition was won by Katrina O’Neill with 20 points from Julie Fitzgerald with 18 and Maria Colfer with 17 points.
Spanish Point Golf Club:
The lady members of Spanish Point golf club played for the Christmas hampers at the weekend when Mary McNamara emerged as the winner with 27 points.
Karen Twomey had the best score of the day with 28 points but didn’t qualify for first prize. She finished in second place followed by Valerie Shannon with 26 points.
Ennis Golf Club:
In last week’s men’s turkey fourball competition at Ennis the top three pairings each scored 46 points. The winners on a countback were Fintan McEvoy (21) and Padraig Cusack (14) from Neil Cremin (22) and John Gavin (14) with third place filled by Barry Larkin (9) and Allyn Dalton (19).
Last week’s ladies 14 hole November spirits competition was won by Rose Enright (20) with 28 points from Mary McMahon (13) with a similar score In third place with 27 points was Suzanne Deane (13) followed by Ann A. Gallery (11) with 26 points.
The senior ladies Christmas scramble was won by Margaret Flanagan, Maureen Moloney and Brid Cunningham from Martina Corbett, Marie Dilleen and Alice D’Arcy. In third place were Judith Brassil, Mary Gardener and Josephine Tone followed by Una O’Reilly, Phil Butler and Carmel Verling with fifth spot filled by Mary Kearns, Kathleen Pyne and Irene Jordan.
Last week’s senior men’s competition was won by Conor Murphy, Liam McCannon, John O Flynn and Flan Lyons with 79 points. They had two to spare over Pat G McInerney, Ronnie Guinnane, Noel Connellan and Paul Kenny. In third place, also with 77 points were Pat P McInerney, Willie Donnellan, Tommy Timpson and PJ Hehir followed by Vincent Corbett, Jim Farrell, Mike Irwin and Fintan McEvoy with 76points.In fifth place, also with 76 points, were Cyril Lyons, Steve Burns, Neil Cremin and Damon Murphy with sixth spot filled by Noel Pyne, Matt Flynn, Joe O Brien and Pat Rutherford with 74 points.
East Clare Golf Club:
The winners of the ladies Wednesday competition at East Clare last week were Geraldine Finnegan, Mary Stritch and Phil Burke with second place filled by Mary Hogan, Connie McKenna, Mary Brennan and Siobhan Mulcahy.
In the senior men’s competition last week the winners were Nick Obolewicz, Donal Fleming and John Nihill from Denis Corcoran, Brendan Magill and Teddy Murphy with third spot filled by Jim Greene, Kieran McNamara and Seamus Whelan.
Competitions disrupted:
