A FUNDRAISER in aid of Corofin teenager Joe Slattery takes place this weekend.

‘Jerseys for Joe’ has been organised by Clare GAA and will see a host of new and retro jerseys go on sale outside Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg in advance and after the TUS Clare SHC semi-finals on Saturday and Sunday.

Hundreds of Clare jerseys from different eras will be on sale in the pop-up shop with spectators encouraged to arrive early to avoid disappointment.

All funds raised will go towards the Joe Slattery Fund for Future Care.

Last November, Joe sustained life-changing injuries in a freak accident when training with the Corofin/Ruan U16 hurlers. Joe has represented Clare in hurling and football and was Junior Cert student of the year in 2024 at Ennistymon Community School. An online appeal launched in the week after his injury has raised over €760,000.

Clare minor hurling manager Ger O’Connell who referenced Joe on many occasions during their run to the All-Ireland final this season has encouraged the public to support ‘Jerseys for Joe’.

O’Connell said, “It is a brilliant cause to aid and put money towards Joe Slattery’s fund. The County Board have found numerous sets of jerseys that are going to be put on sale outside Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg on the weekend of the semi-finals for the Clare senior hurling championship. All we ask is that you please come and support it, get yourself a new or old jersey for a brilliant cause. Joe has always been part of our group and will be moving forward, any help that he can get will be great”.

Graham Ball, captain of the Clare minor hurlers commented, “Joe has been a great teammate of ours and he always will be going forward, it would be great if we could see ye all there”.

This year the Clare minors wore red and white wristbands to keep Joe in their thoughts as they took to the field in championship action. Defender, Niall Doyle told The Clare Echo in advance of the All-Ireland final loss to Waterford, “Joe Slattery is massive to us, all of the lads are wearing the wristbands for him, we do everything for Joe, we stay in contact with him before and after games, in honour of him we play our best”.
