ENNISTYMON has been plunged into mourning once again following the tragic death of Joe Crosse.
Aged in his forties, Joe died in a work-related accident on Thursday morning after falling from a height when carrying out repairs to a property in Ennistymon. Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal work-related incident which occurred shortly after 10am on Thursday morning, Gardaí confirmed.
An investigation will be launched by the Health and Safety Authority.
A father of two, Joe was married to Brid and was a respected plasterer and retained firefighter in Ennistymon. He was actively involved with Ennistymon football club serving as an active coach with underage teams.
Joe has raised thousands of euros for charities and community groups over the years. He has been remembered as a model family man.
Chairperson of Ennistymon GAA Club, Shane Talty said the club was “saddened to learn of the sudden and tragic passing of Joe”. He said, “Joe was manager with our U9s, having looked after U7s previously & helped with U11s too. Just last weekend he organised U9s for a half time game at the first round of the senior championship.
“Always smiling and ready for a chat, Joe was a true volunteer, community and family man. He led so many charity fundraisers, ran marathons, organised blitzes, a highly regarded and sought-after plasterer and a retained firefighter with the Ennistymon crew. He was the best of everyone. A great coach, neighbour, worker and friend”.
Joe is survived by his wife Brid, daughter Teagan, son Odhran, brother, sisters andall his relations, colleagues and friend.s
In a statement, the National Retained Firefighters Association of Ireland said, “Our thoughts and deepest prayers are with the brave crew of Ennistymon Fire Station, their families, and everyone affected by today’s devastating tragedy. We stand with our brothers and sisters in red, no words can ease the loss, but the fire service family grieves as one”.
It is the second tragic death experienced by the North Clare GAA club in the space of two months with senior footballer Éanna Rouine laid to rest over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
