Feakle will begin the defence of the Canon Hamilton senior hurling championship against last year’s intermediate hurling winners Wolfe Tones while Eire Og, holders of the Jack Daly cup for the senior football championship, will face Cratloe in the opening round of that competition.

The draws, made earlier this Monday evening at Clare GAA headquarters in Clareabbey have produced some interesting opening round ties including the clash of Kilmurry-Ibrickane and their neighbours Miltown St. Josephs in a first round tie in senior football while in hurling the opening round will see Sixmilebridge face Clonlara and Kilmaley take on Ballyea.

In the inaugural premier intermediate championship, last year’s beaten finalists Tubber have been included in group 1 along with O’Callaghans Mills who were relegated from senior last year while in group 2 Clarecastle will face Whitegate in the opening round

Beaten finalists last year, Naomh Eoin will take on Corofin who were relegated from senior in the opening round of the intermediate football championship. Kilrush and Banner will clash in another first round game while neighbours Clondegad and Coolmeen will also do battle in the opening round.

In the senior hurling championship two teams qualify from each group for the quarter finals.

In senior football three teams qualify from group 1 which includes two seeded teams and two teams qualify from groups 2 and 3 with the remaining quarter final position being filled by the winner of a play off between the third placed teams in groups 2 and 3

The draws were made by Jimmy Browne from competition sponsors TUS and Clare GAA chairman Kieran Keating
